Frequently asked questions about care provision

We provide residential, nursing and dementia care in homes located across the East Anglian region.  We also have 10 domiciliary care branches and two day centres. In addition, we have a specialist service that supports people with a physical disability, specialising in care for people with multiple sclerosis and Acquired Brain Injuries (ABIs).

At Healthcare Homes, we welcome pre-arranged visits and actively encourage people to spend a day with us to find out how we operate and to experience for themselves the friendly atmosphere in our homes. Our ethos is centred around helping people themselves, or their loved ones, make the important decisions about care.

Our aim is to create a ‘home from home’ for all our residents and so our care team will work closely with you and your loved one to fully understand their complete wants and needs.  This includes devising an appropriate care plan to meet physical and health-related needs, through to understanding personal dietary requirements, likes, dislikes, hobbies and interests.

We also encourage residents to personalise their own space with furnishings, possessions and keepsakes that are important to them, to help them settle in to their new home.  All rooms are fully furnished, including the provision of specialist equipment when required.

When a person has to leave their home, where they have lived for many years, they will inevitably have many personal possessions they wish to bring with them. All rooms in our care homes are already furnished but, whilst we cannot always accommodate large pieces of furniture, we actively encourage people to bring mementoes that are important to them, such as personal treasures, photos and items of furniture or ornaments. Each care home manager will be happy to discuss individual requirements before the moving date.

People living in our homes receive the benefit of staff being on-hand 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In our residential homes, people are more independent usually needing less intensive care. Those living in our nursing homes require ongoing supervision in an environment where their nursing needs are fully met. All nursing care staff are professionally qualified in their individual areas of expertise.

There are no restrictions regarding visitors; you can visit at any time of the day that is convenient to you and your loved one.  Our homes also regularly host events, which guests are welcome to attend.

Firstly, we create bespoke care plans for all residents that are designed to meet their complete needs and ensure they are happy and comfortable in their new homes.  We are very happy for you to meet the home manager at any time, should you wish to discuss any aspect of the care being provided to your loved one.

In addition, our homes are inspected by the independent regulator of health and social care, the Care Quality Commission. They independently assess the quality of care and standards that we provide, and we are very proud with the high levels of results we achieve in such inspections.

We also carry out internal audit procedures to regularly assess standards across the entire group, in addition to conducting quality assurance surveys within the domiciliary care division of the business.

Any complaints or concerns raised are always dealt with promptly, and recorded as part of a strict internal auditing and quality control procedure.

The dining experience is an important consideration and one we take very seriously at our homes.

Upon arrival, the home manager, nutritional lead and chef will speak to your loved one to find out their likes and dislikes, as well as fully assess dietary needs.  This includes everything from allergies to special diets, through to preferences on portion sizes and meal times.  This is then recorded and regularly monitored so the chefs are fully aware of everyone’s personal requirements, likes and dislikes.

All homes display a daily food menu, which includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Mid-morning, afternoon and evening snacks and drinks are also served, however sandwiches, biscuits and other refreshments are available at any time of the day.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner take place at set mealtimes, which offers residents the opportunity to socialise in the various dining areas.  Should your loved one prefer to enjoy a meal in their room or even outside, this is no problem.  In addition, if they would prefer to eat at an alternative time, our staff are more than happy to cater for this.

Every home hosts a range of varied activities – both in the home and out in the local community.  Each programme is very much developed around the hobbies and interests of the residents that live there. Therefore, every home is different and the activity plans are created to suit everyone. If your loved one has a particular interest or hobby, our team will make sure this is taken into consideration for future planning.  

All our homes have a range of lounge and dining areas, which are used for group activities, as well as a place to socialise with other residents or visitors throughout the day.

Yes, we have a dedicated team of carers, senior carers and nurses available throughout the day and night at all homes to ensure residents’ needs are catered for at any time of the day.

Yes, every bedroom has an emergency call device, which alerts the staff should someone require assistance. There are also call buttons in the main lounge and dining areas.

We ensure all residents are able to access GPs, dentists, opticians or other clinicians as required. We also monitor residents individual care plans to ensure they are kept up to date with their regular health and wellbeing appointments.

We pride ourselves in delivering high quality care in high quality surroundings.  We undertake refurbishment programmes across our homes to ensure all rooms are inviting, comfortable and well maintained.  We also employ ground maintenance professionals to keep our grounds and gardens as accessible and as inviting as possible.

We love to celebrate happy occasions and so birthdays and other celebrations do not go unnoticed at Healthcare Homes! We are happy to work with residents and their family members to organise events or parties to celebrate in style.
