Sovereign Lodge starts 2020 with positive praise by industry inspector10th January 2020
Sovereign Lodge Care Centre in Eastbourne, East Sussex, has been rated as ‘good’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), following an unannounced inspection into the quality of service it provides.
The home, which is part of the Healthcare Homes Group, was inspected in November and has since received this positive grading.
Inspectors visited Sovereign Lodge and spent time speaking with staff, residents, the relatives of residents and the registered manager. They looked to determine whether the service delivered at the home was safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. The home received ‘good’ ratings in all five areas.
The home provides residential and nursing care for up to 64 people, many of whom live with dementia. Inspectors looked for evidence that the service involved people, and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect. They found that “People were happy with the care and support provided and how they were treated. One person said, “I am very, very happy with the care. The staff are compassionate and provide unconditional love to me.” Another said, “I couldn’t wish for a better place or better people.”
Care at the home is built around individual needs, and staff work with residents, one on one, to create care packages that will have real outcomes for them. Inspectors noted this, saying “Activity staff had explored how they could enable people with different disabilities to feel motivated and involved and interested in the world around them.”
They also found that “Staff were knowledgeable about people’s communication needs” and “People and their relatives said they were involved and consulted in the assessment of care needs.”
This positive feedback is also reflected on the independent review website www.carehome.co.uk, where the home is currently rated as 9.7 out of 10.
Recent comments include, “My mother was moved to Sovereign Lodge Care Home and was very frail, she received the most exceptional care whilst at the home. All the staff, without exception, were helpful and friendly. Sadly Mum passed away, and the compassion shown by all the staff was outstanding. As a family, we cannot thank those at Sovereign Lodge enough.”
Home Manager Sam Kirwan said, “I am delighted to have received this positive feedback from our industry inspectors. Everyone at Sovereign Lodge works so hard to create a home in which our residents are happy and a workplace in which we can all be very proud.
“Quality care is all about continuous improvement and that is exactly what we work on here. We always want to get better, and we’ll now work to ensure our residents continue to receive the very best care, with their wellbeing as our number one priority.”
