Home Meadow carer braves sky dive as fundraiser for home’s sensory garden!

6th September 2021

Team member Ella at Home Meadow care home in Toft, Cambridgeshire is preparing to brave a tandem parachute jump to raise money for a sensory garden at the home for residents!

Providing quality dementia care in peaceful surroundings, Home Meadow care home already offers a number of dedicated spaces for relaxation, areas for group and one-to-one activities and beautifully-kept gardens – but the team have recently got together to make a plan for a sensory garden to be built for their residents living with dementia. Home Manager Laura says “sensory activities can be calming for those living with dementia, invoking positive memories and a feeling of relaxation and tranquility. This all contributes to a fulfilled lifestyle for our residents, and so is really important to us.”

Ideas for the sensory garden have already started, including plans for a sensory living wall, a water feature, a hydration station, bird feeding station, shrubs to encourage wildlife, and raised flower beds. Activities coordinators Debbie and Ella say “we hope these features mean that residents will be able to get involved in gardening projects at a safe, comfortable height”.

The team at Home Meadow have rallied behind Ella to support her in her fundraising efforts and are looking to encourage those in their local community to do the same. Ella says “I’m hoping that this will help me to overcome my fear of heights! That said, I’m very excited and happy to be contributing  to the home and to the residents’ wellbeing”.

As part of her fundraising, Ella has set up her own fundraising page with Just Giving, to keep track of her progress and will allow the home to make the sensory garden everything they would love it to be.
