Why did you decide to work at Healthcare Homes?

I missed working in a care home setting

What role did you carry out before you came to Healthcare Homes?

Waitressing

What do you think a person needs to do to be good in your role?

A good eye for detail, must be willing to help the rest of the team

What’s your favourite part of your working day and why?

My favourite part is that every day is different. I love singing, dancing and talking with residents when I get the chance

What’s been your biggest professional challenge in your current role, or in your career to date?

Completing my NVQ’s was a challenge for me

What has been your biggest career highlight to date?

Being made housekeeper

What qualities do you think make you stand out?

Approachable, willing to help and get their hands dirty when required

What are your interests outside of work/how do you unwind?

Reading, listening to music and playing on the PS4 with my son

What do you enjoy/you looking forward to most about working at this care home?

I am looking forward to staying as part of an excellent team.

Why did you decide to work at Healthcare Homes?

I started as a carer on night shifts and when my children started school I commenced on days. I then became team leader prior to promotion to Assistant Manager

What role did you carry out before you came to Healthcare Homes?

I have worked in care for 30 years and specialise in dementia care

What do you think a person needs to do to be good in your role?

I need to be organised with my time and provide the right guidance for the care team. Compassion and empathy for our residents and their families and a good sense of humour

What’s your favourite part of your working day and why?

My favourite part of the day is time spent with the residents and their families

What’s been your biggest professional challenge in your current role, or in your career to date?

Whilst the home has been through change, I worked long hours to offer regular support to our carers and team. This pushed my experience and knowledge.

What has been your biggest career highlight to date?

Welcoming new members of the team to the home making them feel welcome.

What qualities do you think make you stand out?

I think being a good leader and working alongside staff to give them value and confidence to move forward. Staff need to feel valued and prepared to perform at their best.

What are your interests outside of work/how do you unwind?

I love to travel. I have three children and two dogs who also take up a lot of my time

What do you enjoy/you looking forward to most about working at this care home?

I look forward to improving dementia care for our residents. I look forward to our home developing and our residents continuing to feel happy and enriched
