Our Home

Avon Lodge care home in Bristol is a modern and spacious home. Located in Kingswood, the home is ideally placed close to the surrounding areas of Bath and Bristol, so there is something to suit everyone. Explore the market town, historic buildings, shops and parks. It has much to offer with a range of local attractions and places to visit, whilst the city centre is only 10 minutes away. The home is easily accessible by major road routes and public transport.

Avon Lodge provides nursing, dementia, residential and respite care to up to 62 residents. Experienced registered nurses and care assistants, selected for their skills operate a 24 hour service, delivering a high standard of nursing care to suit the individual.  An experienced Manager and Deputy Manager supervises the day to day running of the home and ensures that the care delivered encompasses social, physical, psychological and environmental needs.

Rooms at Avon Lodge are fully furnished, however residents are very welcome to bring personal possessions, such as a favourite table, pictures, a chair and ornaments.  There are a variety of lounge areas with TV’s or music where residents can entertain family and friends and some for more quiet enjoyment. Communal areas provide an ideal space for group and one-to-one activities, and our activities team provide a varied activities plan for all to get involved in, if they wish.

Our catering team provide varied meal choices, using nutritious and tasty ingredients. Meals can be taken in one of the dining rooms or in the privacy of their own room.

The home also features a garden-based cabin, equipped with two entrance points, protective Perspex screens, intercom system, heating/insulation, and a nurse call button. This facility allows us to provide greater capacity for visits by friends and relatives when we are not able to meet visiting needs within the home.  Strict infection control procedures are maintained to keep all our residents staff and visitors safe.

Healthcare Homes came across to me as a very good organisation. It’s a privilege to work for the company.

What role did you carry out before you came to Healthcare Homes?

I am a registered Nurse with a background in hospitals and care homes.

What do you think a person needs to do to be good in your role?

To be passionate and to have skills and knowledge. Healthcare Homes is a very rewarding career.

What’s your favourite part of your working day and why?

Seeing the difference we make to the older generation with dementia and making them happy.

What’s been your biggest professional challenge in your current role, or in your career to date?

To attract and recruit the right people and develop existing staff in a new role.

What has been your biggest career highlight to date?

Working towards NVQ Level 5 qualification.

What qualities do you think make you stand out?

I believe we have to do things differently, innovate, if not working to try something else instead.

What are your interests outside of work/how do you unwind?

Spending time with my family.

I am looking forward to working with residents, staff and the community to deliver outstanding care.

Have the ability to multi-task and of course keep a smile on your face at all times

The afternoon, when all the staff are in, the residents are settled and enjoying the activities and are content

What’s been your biggest professional challenge in your current role, or in your career to date?

Transition – from being a stay at home Mum to getting a new identity back – working in a busy office and caring for all our lovely residents

What has been your biggest career highlight to date?

From working in a nursery school after having children to getting back to where I belong and am happy in an office environment

What qualities do you think make you stand out?

The ability to listen, be people orientated as well as having to wear a business hat at the same time

What are your interests outside of work/how do you unwind?

Relax at home, walks in the fresh air, watching films and looking after my dog, cat and rabbit

Meeting new people from all walks of life, with life stories to tell and learn from. Being rewarded with their smiles, to be part of ‘our home’.

Why did you decide to work at Healthcare Home?

I needed a new challenge in life.

What role did you carry out before you came to Healthcare Homes?

I was working for Airbus building and fitting interiors to aircraft before COVID took over and put me out of work.

What do you think a person needs to do to be good in your role?

A person needs to be a quick and positive thinker, and be able to think outside the box.

What’s your favourite part of your working day and why?

All day is my favourite, you never know when the next challenge will arrive.

What’s been your biggest professional challenge in your current role, or in your career to date?

My biggest personal challenge was managing a team of people to build a helicopter from military format to VIP standard.

What has been your biggest career highlight to date?

Seeing the helicopter take its maiden flight before being delivered to its new owner.

What qualities do you think make a good home manager?

A person who communicates with his/her staff and residents in a confident and friendly manner.

What are your interests outside of work/how do you unwind?

I ride motorcycles, I enjoy walking my dog and I like an occasional beer.

What do you enjoy/are you looking forward to the most about working at this care home?

I look forward to the challenges that come forth every day.
