Lauren Mason Care Assistant

Year started working at Healthcare Homes

January 2020

Why did you decide to work at Healthcare Homes?

I decided to work at Healthcare Homes because I’m very passionate about caring for others. I find it a very rewarding job.

What role did you carry out before you came to Healthcare Homes?

Before I came to Healthcare Homes I worked as a carer for a domiciliary company which was home care.

What do you think a person needs to do to be good in your role?

In my opinion, a person needs to have a good heart and have a caring trait. Those two traits make you be a good carer. To be good at my role, you need to be understanding. The reason for that is because you have to be able to understand all the residents have different needs, different routines and different likes/dislikes.

What’s your favourite part of your working day and why?

My favorite part of my working day is assisting the residents with personal care, clothes and assisting them to the lounge. The reason for that is because I like to make sure they look nice and smart. Plus the smile they have on their face. When they come to the lounge just melts your heart.

What’s been your biggest professional challenge in your current role, or in your career to date?

The biggest professional challenge in my current role is to understand different types of dementia. It’s different being told about different types of dementia then actually seeing it and supporting the resident.

What has been your biggest career highlight to date?

My biggest career highlight is being able to get a resident who refuses a shower, hair wash and shave, then being able to gain his permission to allow me to do those things.

What are your interests outside of work/how do you unwind?

Spending time with my family, boyfriend and friends helps me to unwind. With my family, we will play cards or board games outside of work.

What do you enjoy/you looking forward to most about working at this care home?

I look forward to spending with the residents in the lounge. The reason for that is because I love to sit and talk with them, even have a laugh. I also look forward to when a singer comes to the home because to see the residents happy and dance with them as well.
