Our Home

At The White House we provide residential care on a long term or short term basis.  The White House has lovely landscaped gardens with a number of mature ornamental trees, shrubs and other seasonal planting. Within this residential home in Beccles there are spacious single or double bedrooms, all of which are decorated to a high standard and exceptionally well furnished. We encourage our residents to bring items of their own furniture and possessions to complement those already provided and to help make their room an individual retreat.

The White House is located within a quiet residential area of Beccles where its position ensures peace and privacy. The home is a beautiful period house with large windows and interesting architectural details. Its elegant and airy reception rooms are particularly welcoming, and you will find that the interior decoration has been carried to take advantage of the building’s individual character. One of the most stunning features of the home is the entrance, which is dominated by beautiful mature trees.

I have worked in the care sector for 22years, I have always done care from carer to senior and onto a deputy position. Deputy manager for the last 3-4 years

What do you think a person needs to do to be good in your role?

Good interpersonal skills, impartial, friendly, caring, responsible, self-motivation, flexible

What’s your favourite part of your working day and why?

Being around the residents and staff and building relationships. Making sure the residents have a smile on their faces.

What’s been your biggest professional challenge in your current role, or in your career to date?

CQC inspection!!!!

What has been your biggest career highlight to date?

Being promoted to home manager and achieving good on our latest CQC inspection.

What qualities do you think make a good home manager?

Approachable, impartial, to recognise, prioritise and facilitate the day to day needs of residents and staff.

What do you enjoy/are you looking forward to the most about working at this care home?

Reading, travelling.

Being around people and making a difference. When you achieve certain goals it is very rewarding.

I’m a big foody, I also have 2 young children which take up most of my time.

Why did you decide to work at Healthcare Homes?

When looking for a new job, it was suggested to me that I may do well working in a residential home. My experience of care work previously had been with young people so I felt that working at The White House would be both a learning opportunity and possibly a new career path for myself.

What role did you carry out before you came to Healthcare Homes?

Before taking on the role of cook, I was a care assistant within the home. Prior to that I had been volunteering with elderly members of the local community

What do you think a person needs to do to be good in your role?

The ability to motivate yourself, working alone as well as having a love of cooking for others.

What’s your favourite part of your working day and why?

My favourite part of the day is in the afternoon when I am able to go around and speak to residents about any menu choice ideas they may have.

What qualities do you think make you stand out?

Most importantly, a caring nature. Also the drive to make a home the best possible environment for its residents. An ability to motivate staff and promote teamwork to ensure that they provide first class care.

What are your interests outside of work/how do you unwind?

I enjoy reading, drawing, embroidery and crochet. I also love going to the cinema and working my way round the restaurants of Suffolk and Norfolk

The residents. Spending time with them and getting to know them. I like to do my best to help provide them with a warm, caring and nurturing environment

What do you think a person needs to do to be good in your role?

Be patient, show consideration, be understanding and have empathy putting the needs of others first. Have good listening skills. Try and solve any problems. Bring some happiness and laughter to all.

What’s your favourite part of your working day and why?

Making people smile or laugh, sharing special moments and knowing I have contributed to someone’s well-being. Playing games and singing along both in the lounge and in residents’ rooms each day

What’s been your biggest professional challenge in your current role, or in your career to date?

Gaining respect of everyone that works in the home so that there is a real sense of teamwork and caring for our residents. Taking residents out on visits on the minibus and in to the community

What has been your biggest career highlight to date?

Promoted within the company that I worked for at senior management level. Being instrumental to my students achievements, still having their loyalty as they attend my club

A motivator, caring, personable approach, integrity, enthusiasm, wanting the best for their residents and staff. Someone who can gain the respect of all through hard work and fairness

What are your interests outside of work/how do you unwind?

Cooking for the village hall, theatre, swimming, walking in the countryside, gardening, watching live rugby with my family, cinema, music and needlework

When the schools visit and I see students engage with residents and seeing the pleasure that this brings to each person. When entertainers bring joy.
