Year started working at Healthcare Homes

For the first time, I have joined Healthcare Homes in September 2016 with a few months break. I have rejoined the company in June 2020.

Why did you decide to work at Healthcare Home?

I have always been passionate about person-centred, high-quality care. Being part of Healthcare Homes group makes me feel safe and supported. I know that I will be always listening to, and I know that I can always ask for help if I need it.

What role did you carry out before you came to Healthcare Homes?

Before rejoining Healthcare Homes in June 2020, I have managed 71 bedded Nursing Home in Colchester.

What do you think a person needs to do to be good in your role?

You have to love what you do and keep going till you find it.

What’s your favourite part of your working day and why?

I don’t have a particular part of my working day I enjoy every moment of it. Every day is different, and I make sure that the things I have planned for the day are completed. I like to see my residents and staff happy because at the end of the day that is what really matters.

What’s been your biggest professional challenge in your current role, or in your career to date?

The biggest professional challenge in my career has been to manage the home during the COVID pandemic. As all my colleagues we have never experienced this before, and when you are doing something for the very first time you have lots of questions but at this time there were no simple answers. Trying to reassure residents and their families and support my team at the same time, were the biggest challenges so far. I am very proud of every single member of my team and I know that I can always rely on them because so are all in this together.

What has been your biggest career highlight to date?

Achieving Outstanding CQC rating for one of the Homes I used to manage.

What qualities do you think make a good home manager?

To understand that you not always have all the ideas, but through commitment, hard work and passion you create a culture where everyone can have ideas and feel that they are valued.

What are your interests outside of work/how do you unwind?

I like to spend my free time outdoors. During my days off I usually arrange for my son and me to explore and visit new places. During the winter months, we enjoy our skinning holidays and summer ones we usually spend by the coast. My family and friends are a very important part of my life, I always try to ensure that I am here for them too.

What do you enjoy/are you looking forward to the most about working at this care home?

I would like for Handford House to grow in achieving excellence. I am very passionate and would like to ensure that all my team feels the same way.
