Gardening at Oaktree has developed into a creative group activity, with our residents growing flowers and using them in various projects around the home. 

In 2025, the group marked Healthcare Homes’ 20th anniversary by creating a display from 20 different flowers, placing them in recycled glass jars and making banners using Hapazome, a Japanese flower-printing technique. 

Every resident’s name was featured in the finished display, which went on to win the Healthcare Homes 20 Years InBloom Award.

Dining is an essential part of the care package we provide to our residents, not only from a general health and wellbeing perspective, but we believe residents should be able to enjoy eating what they want, when they want.

Meals are freshly cooked every day, and residents have two options. The menu is offered on a four-week rotation and is seasonal. A regular residents’ meeting with the chef helps to determine residents’ likes and dislikes, and we encourage people to eat within the dining room where possible, where a host of traditional foods are served.

Oaktree also provides a snack trolley twice a day, including for residents who prefer to remain in their rooms. 

Where there are concerns about nutrition, staff use food and fluid charts to monitor daily intake, and residents at risk of weight loss can be discussed with their GP and a dietician. This gives us an additional layer of nutritional monitoring alongside our home’s already finely tuned everyday catering arrangements.

Our chef fully assesses all dietary needs, including likes and dislikes, allergies, special diets, through to preferred portion sizes and mealtimes.
