Our Home

Meadow House offers dedicated care for people with a physical disability, specialising in care for people with multiple sclerosis. This purpose built, single storey home was opened in 1989 and has built up an enviable reputation in both the local and wider community for its outstanding care. Extended recently, it has been sympathetically designed to offer a range of single rooms, a welcoming reception area, large lounges, dining room and a separate Activities Centre, all of which are available for our residents and their guests to enjoy. Although rooms are fully furnished, we encourage residents to bring their own items of furniture and personal effects to complement those provided.

Meadow House offers day centre facilities, Monday-Friday between 9am-4pm.  The morning consists of physio activities alongside residents of Meadow House in the Activities Centre.  Lunch is then served in the main dining area of the home.  In the afternoon a varied activities programme is available and trips out are arranged.  If you attend the day centre you are able to enjoy the spa bath facility if you wish.  Our nurses are able to assist you with medication or other requirements you may have.

Meadow House is situated on the outskirts of the pretty market town of Swaffham, near to a range of shops and amenities. To ensure that residents continue to have an active social life, regular trips are organised in our minibus to the local shops and theatres. If you simply wish for peace and tranquillity, well maintained gardens with raised flower beds surround the Home, allowing you to enjoy a haven from the bustle of the town.

My biggest challenge was to progress from a care assistant to physio assistant and then to regional operations assistant to home manager

Good leadership, understanding others, achieving targets and meeting all legal requirements for running a home

Travelling, films and enjoying time with family and friends

I worked previously in accounts when I left school for a large department store

Good interaction with staff, residents, relatives and professionals. An ability to work under pressure and to meet targets

Achieving set tasks and leaving enough time to attend to our residents

I was given the role of Business Administrator, taking on resident’s files

What has been your biggest career highlight to date?

My Business Administrator role and being put forward for a Business Administrator Level 3 course

Someone who listens to their colleagues and understands the legal and financial requirements of running a great home

What are your interests outside of work/how do you unwind?

I like to spend time with family and friends, reading and walking my dog

I am lucky to work with caring, compassionate and reliable staff. We have totally amazing residents and relatives who support us, to make Meadow House outstanding

I had worked in this role at this setting for 14 years. When the position became available again, I was invited to apply.

What role did you carry out before you came to Healthcare Homes?

Office management; bookings, diary and general running of my husband’s plumbing and heating business

What do you think a person needs to do to be good in your role?

You need to have enthusiasm and be motivated. To think ‘big’ amd outside the box. You need imagination and creativity to deliver engaging and enjoyable activities to a range of individuals with different levels of ability

What’s your favourite part of your working day and why?

My favourite part is being ‘hands on’. Executing ideas and planned activities and seeing residents enjoying themselves

What’s been your biggest professional challenge in your current role, or in your career to date?

My biggest challenge is a continued one. To arrange events and activities that please as many people as possible. This challenge is ever changing due to the equally ever changing needs of residents as individuals

What qualities do you think make you stand out?

A good care home manager should be able to lead by example. To be motivational. To listen to their residents needs along with their care team. Delivering good quality care within the setting whilst keeping staff and residents happy. It’s a challenging role

What are your interests outside of work/how do you unwind?

Outside of work I enjoy being with my family, seeing friends, reading, walks on the beach and holidays

What do you enjoy/you looking forward to most about working at this care home?

I enjoy working at Meadow House as I work with the best group of people, both residents and staff. It’s a happy, fun environment with everyone striving for the same objective, to deliver outstanding care to our wonderful residents
