Our Home

Foxgrove is widely regarded as one of Felixstowe’s finest care homes. The warm friendly atmosphere and the elegant lounge and dining room at this care home in Felixstowe combine to create a charming environment for our residents. All our comfortable and generously proportioned bedrooms are en-suite, decorated to an exceptionally high standard, and have a telephone and television point provided. Whilst they are all fully furnished we encourage residents to bring with them their own items of furniture and personal effects so that their room can become truly their own.

Standing in tree-lined grounds of nearly two acres, Foxgrove enjoys a delightful setting in the heart of Old Felixstowe. This handsome Victorian mansion stands uniquely positioned for access to all local facilities, with a post office and general store in the immediate vicinity. The nearby cliffs and town centre provide a perfect setting for walks or relaxation although residents are also happy to enjoy the beautifully maintained gardens.

I enjoy all aspects of my day

What’s been your biggest professional challenge in your current role, or in your career to date?

Becoming Home Manager for the first time has been my biggest professional challenge. I have always wanted this position and I am very happy.

What has been your biggest career highlight to date?

Achievement of level 5, Diploma in Leadership and Management in a care setting

A good manager is a person who by providing the right support and guidance for their team motivates them to achieve excellence

What are your interests outside of work/how do you unwind?

I like to keep active, so in my spare time I am often out and about with family

What do you enjoy/you looking forward to most about working at this care home?

I just simply love my job and enjoy every single moment.

What qualities do you think make you stand out?

It’s lovely to have a manager that you are able to approach with any ideas or problems and be listened to. To have good knowledge of surroundings. Be patient, firm but fair.

What are your interests outside of work/how do you unwind?

Competitions with my daughters who do majorettes at national level. I also love holidays abroad.

What do you enjoy/you looking forward to most about working at this care home?

I like to re-dress rooms and have a lot of satisfaction when they are complete. My colleagues are friendly. I enjoy my job and working across both homes, chatting to residents and knowing the homes are clean and fresh.

I had been working in domiciliary care locally and wished to continue in care, without the travelling. I applied for a care assistant role at Maynell House. I had previously been an admin manager some years earlier and was offered an admin post at Maynell House and Foxgrove, 10 hours in each

What do you think a person needs to do to be good in your role?

Prioritise work and manage your time. Be available to listen and talk with everyone. Have an interest and understanding of the home and environment you are working in. Be supportive to your home manager. Know your residents and their families. Be confident and able to promote your home. Understand that everyone is different and the importance of confidentiality

What’s your favourite part of your working day and why?

Working within a residential home with so may different people, residents, family members, staff, healthcare professionals etc. every day is different and that’s my favourite part

What has been your biggest career highlight to date?

Recently being offered a full time admin role covering both homes

Good leadership skills, be supportive, a good communicator, approachable and human

Family, friends, cooking, travel, music, reading, wildlife and nature

Pride, attention to detail; knowing your residents’ needs, likes, dislikes and dietary requirements. Be well organised and be able to deliver an alternative meal at the last minute when requested. Excellent food hygiene

Bringing the kitchen up to a level 5 and maintaining it

What has been your biggest career highlight to date?

Bringing home produce to Foxgrove including homemade breads, homemade soups and dishes from around the world

Good leadership skills, approachable and understanding of residents’ and staff needs

What are your interests outside of work/how do you unwind?

Spending time with my family. I enjoy water sports, especially wake boarding. I love to cook for my friends and family.

Why did you decide to work at Healthcare Homes?

In my working like I have been a housekeeper, head housekeeper, carer, senior carer, in-house trainer, A1 assessor and have worked in a home for partially sighted.

What role did you carry out before you came to Healthcare Homes?

I started working at Foxgrove on 1995 for nine years; the reputation of the home locally was good. I left to live overseas and on return to the UK took employment once again at Foxgrove. I love Foxgrove, it has such a good feeling about it.

What do you think a person needs to do to be good in your role?

I think in this role you need to go in to work with lots of positive energy, be a good motivator, be approachable and understanding. Not everyone wishes to join in every activity, much time is spent as one-to-one with residents.

What’s your favourite part of your working day and why?

One of my favourite parts of the day is being greeted with a smile and a “what are we doing today”.

What’s been your biggest professional challenge in your current role, or in your career to date?

One of my biggest challenges each year is our annual fete as not one glove fits all; it is often challenging to find activities to suit all.

What has been your biggest career highlight to date?

My biggest highlight is when I hear residents and family members speaking of me fondly about the activities I hold and the time I spend with residents

What qualities do you think make you stand out?

Excellent communication, encouragement and approachability.

What are your interests outside of work/how do you unwind?

I enjoy walking my dogs. I have two retired ex-racing greyhounds and I enjoy regular meet ups with the rescue group, Retired Greyhound Trust where we have monthly walks with 70/80 more greyhounds. I enjoy live music; heavy metal, alternative rock but I still enjoy 70’s boogie night.

What do you enjoy/you looking forward to most about working at this care home?

I enjoy the feel of our home. It is so homely, comfortable and welcoming. I enjoy being with the residents. I enjoy welcoming new residents and getting to know them. I love to hear laughter and the cheers when we play a competitive game. I love to hear the residents singing to all the old favourite tunes when we have entertainers in. I also enjoy the company of my colleagues

All types of sports including motor cycle sports. I enjoy dog walking and outside activities
