101 happy returns Audrey!

A resident at Ladymead nursing home in Swindon has marked her 101st birthday with a special celebration at the home.

Audrey Hayes turned 101 on 18th October and the keen dancer was treated to a party with fellow residents and staff.

Audrey, who is originally from London, came from a large family, with three brothers and a sister.

She married Dennis in 1939 when she was just 19, and together they had five children.  Audrey spent most of her working life in secretarial roles alongside caring for her family.  Sadly, Dennis died when he was 69.

She enjoyed ballet as a child and went on to perform in a number of theatrical productions.  She says the secret to a long life is to “enjoy yourself and make the most of things.”

She moved to Ladymead last year and prior to Covid, she enjoyed regular visits from her family.  As they were unable to visit this year, they spent time speaking via Skype and the Ladymead team laid on a special birthday tea for her to enjoy, complete with decorations and a birthday cake.

Home manager Byju Vasudevan said: “It was a real pleasure to be able to celebrate Audrey’s special birthday.  It may not have been the celebration she would have planned, but we certainly did all we could to make it a fantastic afternoon for her.

“On behalf of everyone at Ladymead, I’d like to wish her a very happy birthday.”

Ladymead is located in Wroughton, Swindon. For more information telephone 01793 845063
