At The Old Vicarage in Sherborne, we recently transported our residents to the sunny shores of a traditional British seaside, all from the comfort of our care home. Our virtual beach day was a wonderful success, filled with fun activities, nostalgic memories, and plenty of laughter.

Dressed to impress
Residents and staff embraced the theme by dressing up in their best beachwear, setting the tone for a day full of seaside joy. We began the event by reminiscing about cherished memories of past trips to the beach. To enhance the experience, we played film clips of sandy shores and listened to the sounds of bustling beaches, seagulls, and the soothing rhythm of waves crashing on the shore.
Everyone loves a sing-along!
The atmosphere was so infectious that it wasn’t long before a spontaneous sing-along erupted, with everyone joining in on beloved classics like “Beside the Seaside” and “Summer Holiday.” It was a heartwarming moment that truly captured the spirit of the day.
Our residents also enjoyed a variety of interactive sensory activities, bringing the essence of the beach right to The Old Vicarage. From building sandcastles to a lively game of hook-a-duck, there was something for everyone to enjoy. The day wouldn’t have been complete without a fun game of catch using colourful beach balls, which had everyone engaged and smiling.

A cheeky ‘chippy’
Of course, no beach day is complete without a traditional fish and chip lunch. We were thrilled to have our local favourite, The Abbey Friar in Sherborne, provide a delicious meal that everyone thoroughly enjoyed. As if that wasn’t enough, our residents were treated to a surprise visit from an ice cream van, where they indulged in classic ‘99’ cones, complete with Mr Whippy and a Flake – the perfect way to round off our seaside adventure.
Stay tuned
At The Old Vicarage, we are committed to creating enriching experiences that bring joy and comfort to our residents. Our virtual beach day was just one example of how we strive to make every day special, ensuring our residents enjoy life to the fullest.
We look forward to creating more memorable moments for our residents in the future, and we’re excited to share these stories with you here on our blog. Stay tuned for more updates from The Old Vicarage!
