Celebrating a special birthday at Aldringham Court

A resident at Aldringham Court care home in Aldringham near Leiston and Aldeburgh, has marked her 100th birthday with a special celebration at the home.

Herta Brabbing has been living at Aldringham Court since September, and reached her milestone birthday on the 10th January. Herta was born and brought up in Hamburg, Germany. Her father worked on a barge, on which they lived until she was 10, before moving when her brother and sister were born.

Herta met her husband, Reginald, when he was in the army and the war had ended. It was love at first sight and Herta’s family were very close to her husband.

She worked as a cleaner and for many years cleaned at St Felix School in Reydon.  She has a daughter, Linda and a son Stephen, and enjoyed dancing, holidaying and entertaining her family and friends.  When Herta’s husband sadly died 25 years ago, she moved to Leiston to be near her daughter, to whom she is very close.

To mark her milestone birthday, staff at Aldringham Court arranged a special celebration with a cake, lots of birthday cards and a video call from her family. She was also delighted receive a card from Her Majesty, the Queen.

Manager of Aldringham Court, Sarah Robertson said: “It’s been a joy to help Herta celebrate this very special birthday.  Her family and fellow residents shared so many good wishes with her, either at the home or virtually and we hope she had a wonderful day.  Many happy returns, Herta.”

Aldringham Court is part of the Healthcare Homes Group and is based on Aldeburgh Road in Aldringham.  For more information, call 01728 832191.
