Claremont House welcomes PAT dog Poppy

Claremont House in Caister-on-Sea, Norfolk, and a cherished member of the Healthcare Homes group, recently had the pleasure of welcoming a new and furry friend. Poppy, a PAT (Pets As Therapy) dog brought immense happiness and comfort whilst visiting the home and its residents.

Pets as Therapy (PAT)

Poppy, a gentle and affectionate dog, is part of the Pets as Therapy programme, a national charity founded in 1983 that works to enhance health and wellbeing in the community. PAT dogs and their volunteer handlers visit establishments such as care homes, hospitals, and schools, offering companionship and therapeutic benefits through the simple act of interacting with a friendly animal.

Love and companionship

During her time at Claremont House, Poppy spent time with residents, engaging in gentle play and offering the kind of unconditional love and companionship that only a dog can provide. The presence of Poppy uplifted spirits and provided a soothing effect, particularly for those who might be feeling lonely or anxious.

A variety of benefits

The team at Claremont House, including its dedicated care team, were delighted to see the benefits that Poppy’s visits brought. They noted improvements in residents’ moods and social interactions, attributing this to the joy and comfort that Poppy provided. The success of Poppy’s visits underscores the importance of such initiatives in enhancing the quality of life for care home residents.

Mental and emotional health

Healthcare Homes remains committed to exploring innovative ways to support the mental and emotional health of its residents. The regular visits from Poppy, and other PAT dogs, is a testament to this commitment, bringing a unique and heartwarming form of therapy to those who call Claremont House their home.
