Larry’s Club on Tour: Bringing joy and connection to Norwich’s home care service users

At Manorcourt Homecare’s Norwich branch, something truly special is happening: Larry’s Club, a social group born from the heart, is enriching lives and fostering connections. Launched in April 2023, Larry’s Club was inspired by the memory of Larry, a cherished service user who, sadly, had no family to share life’s moments with. His legacy now lives on through this incredible initiative designed to bring companionship, laughter, and warmth to all the Norwich branch’s service users.

Recently, the members of Larry’s Club took a day trip to the stunning Cromer Beach Pier. It was a magical day by the sea, filled with everything you’d expect from a classic British beach outing: fish and chips, birdwatching, and beautiful life stories shared in the fresh coastal air. Thanks to Manorcourt Homecare’s dedication, the entire trip was funded by the branch, ensuring that everyone—no matter their mobility challenges—could be part of the fun. A specially rented minibus was arranged, making sure no one missed out on the adventure.

Larry’s Club is open and free to all service users of the Norwich branch. It’s more than just a social group; it’s a community. It’s a place where lasting friendships are formed, and lives are transformed. Take Louisa, for example, one of the club’s regular attendees. Once housebound and isolated, she’s now enjoying a lively social life and feels a sense of freedom she hadn’t known before. In fact, her carers joke that she now has a busier schedule than they do!

“Larry’s story touched all of our hearts, and we felt compelled to create something in his honour that could make a lasting difference,” says Anne-Marie Brown, Branch Manager of Manorcourt Homecare’s Norwich Branch. “Larry’s Club is not just a social gathering; it’s a lifeline for those who may feel lonely. Seeing the friendships and adventures that have blossomed is something we’re incredibly proud of.”

The excitement doesn’t end there! Larry’s Club has its next event planned—a nostalgic Back to School themed social, complete with all the favourite treats and even a school prom celebration. The members are already buzzing with anticipation for another day filled with laughter, memories, and connection.

Larry’s Club is just one shining example of how they’re providing not just physical support but emotional and social nourishment to all their service users.
