Special mums at Shipdham Manor

Whether it’s for unconditional love and care, or the size of their Yorkshire puddings, there’s lots of love for the mums at Shipdham Manor in Norfolk this week. Relatives sent in their special messages and some residents also remembered their own mums as activities took place in the run up to Mothering Sunday.

We are delighted to be able to share some of the special messages here.

My Wonderful Mum Christine,

Likes me to look pristine.

She has supported me through thick and thin, And

never threw my childhood pictures in the bin.

Her smiles makes the world a better place

Happiness is being with her, even with a mask in place.

Our Mum, Grandma and Great Grandma, Patricia Coles…. Singer on the radio when she was a girl, Nurse, Doyen of the Women’s Institute, Knitter of funky sweaters and cardigans (especially the ‘Starsky’ jacket she made from scratch for her eldest son in 1977). Creator of a fancy patchwork bedspread we still have on one of our beds at home, Sketcher, painter, crafter, traveller all over the place, from the Rockies  to South Africa to the Baltic. Very good cuddler, flipping good cook, lover of various mangy dogs and noble hounds. Mother, Grandma and Great Grandma, all-round gentle and kind human being. We remember we grew up knowing we were loved, and we love you. Kerrigan, Alison and Jonathon xx

My mum, my best friend, Gill Allen. You have provided and showered me with unconditional warmth, love and happiness from the moment I was born. Your affection, support and presence is the reason behind the person I am today. My heart is full and content whilst you are with me, I hope I am the mum you are to me. I will be eternally grateful for you, your      kindness and caring nature towards everyone including your grandchildren, no words will ever show you how very        much you mean to me. Susan Hart – Mum’s bravery, tenacity and determination to maintain independence following an accident in her teens which left her with life-changing injuries is admirable. Her strength of character and wicked sense of humour have been her trademarks –  an incredible lady! xx

This is a picture of my dear Mum Evelyn Daws on her wedding day 26th March, 1960. She married Derek, my Dad,  Shipdham Church and they lived in Shipdham all their married life. My Mum was always there for me, and later for my  daughter, nothing was too much. She loved me and her Granddaughter so much and we love her. Meryle and Amelia x

Our Mum, Janice is the kindest, most loving and fiercely protective mother in the world and we are all taking the time to reflect on fond memories of her this Mother’s Day, Love your children xx

I remember as a child I had your care and hand to hold.  Throughout life I grew up and remember you putting  us in front of you. We have had many good times with fun and laughter, sometimes words and tears. We knew you were there supporting and caring for us. You are a Mum, Friend, Nanny and Great Nanny. My mum was Amelia, Milly for short, and I remember her being a very hard working. We used to have ‘working holidays’ picking fruit in Kent! We used to visit the coast, which my mum loved. My mum was a wonderful woman and I have a lot to thank her for.

Iris Mountford

My mums name was Maude and I was the youngest of six children. I was always the favourite being the youngest and  did not want to go outside to play with my sisters because I just wanted to be with my mum all the time. She taught  me how to knit and we used to sit and knit together in front of the stove. I loved my mum a lot.

Amy Everleigh

My mums name was Martha, but liked to be called Pat. My mum was a very intelligent woman and always thought that it was a shame she had to leave her education early because she could have been a great achiever. My mum always had a cake on the table and always cooked the village vicar a Sunday lunch! Me and my mum were very close, and I miss her a lot but have such lovely warm memories.
