Key Facts

Our Home

Opened in 1976, Mill Lane offers specialised nursing care for the elderly and has an enviable reputation in the local community for its high quality care. The Home, which was once the local doctor’s surgery, has been sympathetically extended and refurbished to now offer a choice of welcoming reception rooms with attractive patio areas, all available for our residents and their guests to enjoy. Although our rooms are fully furnished, we encourage residents to bring with them items of furniture and personal effects to complement those already provided so that their room can become an individual retreat.

Mill Lane is situated in the Old Town residential area of Felixstowe, conveniently near to a range of shops and amenities. To ensure that our residents continue to have an active social life, the homes’ minibus regularly takes residents to the local theatre, on shopping trips or to benefit from the fresh sea air of the nearby coastline. If you simply wish for peace and tranquillity, well maintained gardens surround the Home, allowing you to enjoy a haven from the bustle of the town.

The home also features a garden-based cabin, equipped with two entrance points, protective Perspex screens, intercom system, heating/insulation, and a nurse call button. This facility allows us to provide greater capacity for visits by friends and relatives when we are not able to meet visiting needs within the home.  Strict infection control procedures are maintained to keep all our residents staff and visitors safe.

Year started working at Healthcare Homes

January 2022

What role did you carry out before you came to Healthcare Homes?

I was a clinical link nurse with West Suffolk CCG – clinical commissioning Group, supporting 52 care homes in the region through the first waves of covid 19. I have also worked in care homes as a deputy manager and as clinical lead.

What do you think a person needs to do to be good in your role?

A good manager must be approachable and responsive, someone to help sort out the problems or issues which may arise. They must also genuinely care about the staff, the residents and the families.

What’s your favourite part of your working day and why?

I love to watch everyday life going on in the care home. Love to see people coming out of their rooms in the morning, getting ready for their breakfast or planning the day’s activities and just being themselves. We are one big family and treat our residents like this.

What’s been your biggest professional challenge in your current role, or in your career to date?

Getting to grips with the new systems for a job, the paperwork and the protocols.

What has been your biggest career highlight to date?

By far it is getting this role. Mill Lane is a wonderful home and I am proud to be the manager here.

What are your interests outside of work/how do you unwind?

I live in Stowupland, just a short drive away and enjoy spending time with my two children. I enjoy horse riding and also like cookery, buying cookery books and trying out new recipes.

What do you enjoy/are you looking forward to the most about working at this home/ branch?

I am looking forward to being part of the team here, doing my best for the team and making the home exceptional. I want the residents to have a really great experience living here and to bring a smile to their faces every day.

Please detail any relevant education/training

Studied at Ipswich University,  most recently gaining a patient medical assessment diploma.

I also hold a qualification for Community Nurses as I have also performed Out of Hours Nursing calls to assist people in Emergency Situations in their own homes.
