Our Home

Opened in 1976, Mill Lane offers specialised nursing care for the elderly and has an enviable reputation in the local community for its high quality care. The Home, which was once the local doctor’s surgery, has been sympathetically extended and refurbished to now offer a choice of welcoming reception rooms with attractive patio areas, all available for our residents and their guests to enjoy. Although our rooms are fully furnished, we encourage residents to bring with them items of furniture and personal effects to complement those already provided so that their room can become an individual retreat.

Mill Lane is situated in the Old Town residential area of Felixstowe, conveniently near to a range of shops and amenities. To ensure that our residents continue to have an active social life, the homes’ minibus regularly takes residents to the local theatre, on shopping trips or to benefit from the fresh sea air of the nearby coastline. If you simply wish for peace and tranquillity, well maintained gardens surround the Home, allowing you to enjoy a haven from the bustle of the town.

I had very much enjoyed work experience at Mill Lane at a young age; never forgotten. The reputation of both Mill Lane and Healthcare Homes in the area has always been apparent.

An individual who is calm, understanding, willing to support and help others

I love each day, never is there one the same.

What’s been your biggest professional challenge in your current role, or in your career to date?

Working in the health and social care sector for the last 11 years, from a care assistant role working my way up to Home Manager

What has been your biggest career highlight to date?

Becoming a Home Manager has always been my goal and I am now in such a privileged position. I look forward to each challenge I face.

What qualities do you think make you stand out?

A Home Manager is able to listen, support and care about all that they do. To build a team to ensure a wonderful home is enjoyed by residents.

What are your interests outside of work/how do you unwind?

I enjoy spending time with friends and family. I also love holidays.

What do you enjoy/you looking forward to most about working at this care home?

I am looking forward to embracing future challenges and providing a warm, friendly home for our residents

I had worked in a care home covering maternity leave. I really enjoyed it so when this position came up I thought I must give it a go

To be organised, able to prioritise, be helpful, cheerful and go the extra mile when required

I enjoy the mornings when I feel refreshed and ready to tackle any challenge they day may bring

What’s been your biggest professional challenge in your current role, or in your career to date?

Throughout my working life I have always thrived on busy roles; having to work to tight deadlines which I find challenging yet rewarding

What qualities do you think make you stand out?

I believe a Manager should have strong leadership skills, be caring, organised and approachable but also part of the team

What are your interests outside of work/how do you unwind?

I enjoy walking, meeting friends, seeing my daughter, meals out, cinema and holidays in Switzerland where my family live

I find it very rewarding working in the homely atmosphere of Mill Lane. I enjoy helping towards the smooth running of the home and interacting with residents and families

I worked within Felixstowe docks auditing incoming stock for a large supermarket chain

Gaining my carpentry and joinery City & Guilds accreditation with credits

Being able to lead and be approachable to residents and staff

VW camper van and camping. Being part of a large team running a VW show.

I like to tackle large projects within the home, i.e. revamping the dining area with a new preparation area
