Spring time fun!

Within the colourful blooms of Spring, residents of Avon Lodge ventured out to the garden centre. Soaking in the sights, scents, and sounds of the great outdoors. The outing was a chance for residents to connect with nature.

“Getting out and about is so important for our residents’ wellbeing,” said Kelly Irwin, Home Manager at Avon Lodge. “The trip to the Garden Centre is always a crowd favourite. It brought smiles to everyone’s faces and sparked some great conversations.”

Time to connect

As they strolled through the aisles of flowers and plants, residents and their companions’ shared stories reflecting on the simple pleasures of life. The day trip was a reminder of the beauty that surrounds the home, and the happiness that comes from spending time together.

Back at Avon Lodge, there is anticipation for the coming months. Residents expressed hopes of seeing the care home’s garden flourish with the same vibrancy they witnessed at the garden centre.

Avon Lodge Care Home remains dedicated to creating meaningful experiences and nurturing environments for its residents, ensuring they feel valued, engaged, and connected to the world around them.

The importance of social engagement

Residents and service users benefit significantly from visiting garden centres and other community areas. These outings provide invaluable opportunities for social interaction, sensory stimulation, and physical activity.

For those with dementia, visiting garden centers and community areas is especially beneficial. These outings offer sensory stimulation and can evoke memories, promoting cognitive function and mental well-being.

Engaging in activities outside the care home environment fosters a sense of connection to the broader community and can promote feelings of independence. Moreover, exposure to nature and green spaces has been shown to have therapeutic effects, reducing stress and anxiety.

By incorporating visits to garden centres and other communal spaces into care home schedules, we prioritise the health and happiness of our residents, enriching their lives through meaningful experiences and connections with the world around them.
