A warm welcome at Haughgate House for Ram

Healthcare Homes is delighted to welcome Sewsagar Ramchelawon as the new manager at Haughgate House in Woodbridge, Suffolk.

Sewsagar, who is known to everyone as Ram, started work with Healthcare Homes recently and enjoys the challenge of starting work in a different home. Ram was originally a maths teacher in Mauritius and trained as a nurse when he came to England in 1992. For the past 30 years he has worked in a variety of different care home and hospital settings as well as with people with learning difficulties. Ram ran his own healthcare consultancy and has helped to turn reputations around.

“There’s a warm and welcoming atmosphere at Haughgate House, the staff who work here really want to be here – working in care and at this home, they are committed to their fellow team members and to all our residents here.”

Ram loves the homely feel of a care home and getting to know the residents well.

“You can become a part of the resident’s life and get to know them and their family really well, in a hospital setting people come and go quickly, in a care home you can share their journey with them,” he explained.

“I am not a manager who you will find in the office, I like to be out and about, part of the home. I like to take part in the activities if I can.”

Ram lives just a few minutes’ drive away from Haughgate House and enjoys spending time with his family as well as walking and listening to music.

Haughgate House, which was originally built in the 1920’s as a family home for the local Cobbold family is part of the Healthcare Homes family of 48 homes and 11 homecare branches.

The property was converted in to a nursing home in the 1980’s and has recently undergone a major refurbishment. This has provided a new range of facilities in keeping with the 1920’s home, as well as providing modern and comfortable rooms for residents and staff.
