New manager Debbie welcomed into the family at The Malthouse

Healthcare Homes has welcomed a new manager at The Malthouse in Gillingham, Dorset.

Debbie Wyke has a long career in the care sector and has managed care services in the UK and Wales for people with nursing and residential care needs as well as younger people with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour. Debbie joined the team at The Malthouse after managing another care home in the area for 15 years.

“I have never worked in any other sector and had my first job with adults with learning disabilities as a Saturday girl aged just 12. I stayed with that unit for more than 13 years working my way up to unit manager,” she said.

Debbie loves the atmosphere at the Malthouse which has well-established, tranquil gardens and is walking distance from Gillingham town centre.

“People genuinely love the home and many of the team have been here for many years  – it’s a wonderful family atmosphere which I have been welcomed into with open arms,” she explained.

Coming into work with a smile and friendly face every morning is Debbie’s aim.

“I like to get out on the floor as often as possible and meet the residents and the team. I meet the early birds when I first come in at 7:30 but am out of the office as often as I can be throughout the day.”

In her spare time Debbie enjoys spending time with family, her husband, their four children and three grandchildren as well as lots of country and coastal walks with Springer Spaniel Ffion.

The Malthouse, in Gillingham, Dorset, is part of the Healthcare Homes family of 48 homes and specialises in residential support for the elderly. It is one of the most highly regarded care homes in Dorset and has been awarded a Gold Standards Framework (GSF) accreditation. The GSF gives outstanding training to all those providing end of life care to ensure better lives for people and recognised standards of care.

The home is rated Good by the Care Quality Commission, CQC, with a top rating of Outstanding for responsiveness. The Malthouse has strong links with the local community which Debbie plans to renew and extend as we come out of the Covid pandemic restrictions.
