The special bond between carer and service user is at the heart of our Live-in care service. In this story, we’re proud to share how Gloria and David’s partnership shows the difference Live-in care can make—offering support, meaningful companionship, and a better quality of life.
Gloria’s journey into caring
Gloria has spent over 25 years looking after others, including the past 10 years as a Live-in carer. Originally from Ghana, Gloria grew up in a family where caring for others was a way of life. After moving to the UK in 1999, she started working in care homes but later chose Live-in care to build stronger relationships with her clients and provide more personal support.
Gloria says: “It’s a rewarding job. I love what I do, and I wouldn’t have done it for 25 years if I didn’t.”
David’s story: Why he needed support
David has a learning disability and needs supervision and encouragement to manage daily life. Before Gloria became his carer, David struggled to stick to routines and lacked confidence. His family wanted a solution that would make him feel safe, happy, and supported.
That’s when Gloria came into his life.
How live-in care made a difference
Since Gloria became David’s carer nearly two years ago, his life has improved in so many ways. She encourages him to stay as independent as possible, helping him enjoy the things he loves, like listening to his favourite music and going on outings, such as his regular trips to Leisure World.
With Gloria’s support, David is more confident and enjoys a better daily routine. His family have noticed the change and feels reassured knowing he’s so well cared for. Gloria says:
“David is very independent, but he needs encouragement and supervision. I’ve seen him grow so much—it’s been amazing to watch.”
Why Gloria chose us
Gloria appreciates the support we offer our carers.
“The support I’ve had makes all the difference. It lets me focus fully on the service users, knowing I’m valued and understood,” Gloria says.
This flexibility has allowed her to dedicate herself fully to David and build a strong bond that helps him thrive.
The outcome
- David’s life has improved: With Gloria’s care, David has become more confident, sticks to his routines, and enjoys life more.
- Peace of mind for his family: David’s family know he’s in good hands and feels reassured by the care he receives.
- Gloria finds fulfilment: Gloria says her work is rewarding, showing the heart of what Live-In care is all about—making a real difference.
