Kingsmead Care Home in Swindon welcomed Local MP and Secretary of State for Transport, Heidi Alexander, as part of Care Home Open Week.
The visit formed part of the national “Care Is Coming Home” campaign, which celebrates the role care homes play at the heart of their local communities.
During her visit, Heidi spent time speaking with residents and staff, learning more about life at Kingsmead and the care and support provided within the home.
She also met members of the team and joined in conversations with residents throughout the visit.

Kingsmead is one of the oldest care homes in Swindon and has a strong reputation locally for providing residential and nursing care. The home offers a warm, homely environment with communal lounges, activity spaces and quiet areas where residents can relax and socialise.
The home also benefits from a dedicated team of long-standing staff, many of whom have built strong relationships with residents and families over time. The care home manager, a registered nurse, plays an active role in the day-to-day running of the home and supporting residents’ individual needs.
Care Home Open Week is a national initiative designed to open care homes to the public, showcase the care and activities on offer, and strengthen connections between care homes and their local communities.
