Residents and staff at Uvedale Hall care home in Needham Market dressed up for a 1920s birthday party
There’s no better excuse for a 1920s birthday party than a month full of birthdays. At Uvedale Hall in Needham Market this October, they had plenty to celebrate.
Instead of marking each birthday separately, the team threw one big 1920s birthday party for everyone. They also chose a theme to match the mood: the Roaring Twenties.
A special day for Kath
Above all, the day belonged to Kath, who turned 99 on Sunday. In fact, Kath’s story began in October 1927, right in the middle of the decade they were celebrating. As a result, the theme felt like the perfect fit.
After all, it isn’t every day you get to throw a party in the style of the year someone arrived. Kath was at the centre of it all, and she loved every minute.

Music, dresses and a touch of glamour
First, the team decorated the lounge, and then music from the era filled the room. Meanwhile, lots of residents and staff dressed up in their best 1920s outfits.
Residents compared dresses and shared memories of the songs and fashions they remembered from their parents and grandparents.
Of course, no 1920s party would be complete without a drink or two. The passion fruit vodkas went down very well indeed!
Finally, everyone gathered round for a lovely birthday cake. They sang Happy Birthday to all our October birthdays, with an extra loud cheer for Kath.
Something to look forward to
Afternoons like this are a big part of what makes Uvedale Hall feel like home. That’s why our team works hard to make sure there is always something on the calendar.
For example, it might be a themed party, a trip out on the minibus or a cup of tea in the conservatory. Birthdays matter at any age, but reaching 99 is especially special.
From everyone at Uvedale Hall, happy birthday Kath. Happy birthday as well to all our residents celebrating this October.
