Nursing Roles
Nursing in a care home can offer a level of job satisfaction that other healthcare settings just can’t rival. From the deep connections that you build with residents as you support them one-on-one to improve their quality of life to a real sense of teamwork and camaraderie, care home nursing is an enjoyable and deeply rewarding career.
As a nurse with Healthcare Homes, you’ll get to know and care for residents like family, providing holistic nursing to people rather than simply treating medical problems. You’ll utilise a wide-range of nursing skills whilst being supported to learn even more and encouraged to progress your career with us.
There is never a dull day in the life of a care home nurse. You’ll constantly be introduced to new people, new environments and new challenges, keeping your role interesting and varied.
Along with an active registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, you’ll need a caring and compassionate nature, committed to ensuring our residents receive the best clinical support and highest quality of care.
You’ll also need good knowledge of the most up-to-date clinical practises, experience of writing detailed care plans, including risk assessments and diet plans, and a good understanding of regulatory frameworks.
You don’t need to have worked in a care home setting before, but you do need to be well-rounded with a willingness to learn and develop specialist nursing skills in a range of long-term conditions that affect the elderly.
If you think nursing in a care home environment is a walk in the park, think again. Our residents are often living with multiple comorbidities, and their conditions change daily and can deteriorate rapidly. You’ll be responsible for spotting the most subtle changes and acting quickly, often with just one chance to get it right. You’ll need to be a good communicator, a problem-solver, adaptable and able to work well and make complex decisions under pressure.
To work in our care homes, you’ll need to have had both of your Covid-19 vaccinations.
Call us on 01206 987499 or fill out our simple enquiry form for an informal chat with one of our friendly recruitment advisors.
Along with a welcome bonus of £2,000*, your annual NMC fee paid and revalidation support, you’ll be rewarded with a highly stimulating and satisfying working environment that will constantly keep you on your toes.
Whether you’re joining us without any experience in the care sector or are already a seasoned nursing home professional, we’ll make sure you have the training and development opportunities to start out and grow your career with Healthcare Homes.
From our four-day induction programme to get you familiar with the Healthcare Homes approach, to our Healthcare Homes Academy, offering specialist courses in over 40 subjects, we’ll help you develop your skills and confidence to provide exceptional care.
We love seeing our people build and progress their careers with us. If you’ve got the right attitude and motivation, we’ll help you realise your career ambitions.
Whether you need the security of guaranteed hours or the flexibility to pick and choose your shifts, we have a range of full-time, part-time or zero-hours bank contracts to suit you. Call us on 01206 987499 to discuss the hours of a role you’re interested in and we’ll do whatever we can to accommodate.
If your personal circumstances change once you’re on one type of contract, we’ll always do what we can to switch you onto something more suitable. Want to go back to school but work flexible shifts around your studies? A bank contract would be the ideal choice. Or perhaps you’d like to increase your hours once a child has flown the nest? A full-time role could be for you.

Naomi has worked in care since she was a teenager, in the kitchens then as a carer and supporting in other departments before doing her nursing degree, following in her mum’s footsteps who was also a nurse. She has worked at Handford House in Ipswich for the last five years as Deputy Manager.
“It’s a job I love and working in a care home is where I am meant to be. I love spending time with the residents and getting to know them, they become like extended family, something you just don’t get nursing in a hospital setting.”
Naomi has previously helped to commission a large new care home and worked as a student nurse on high dependency wards in a hospital. With her partner she home schools her teenage son and loves to learn herself. During her five years with Healthcare Homes she has been supported to progress in a variety of different ways.
“There have been lots of opportunities for me at Healthcare Homes, partly due to the Covid Pandemic as I been able to work with our clinical governance team looking at policies and procedures for our homes to make sure we are always offering the safest and highest quality care to our residents. It is an area of nursing and care which I find really interesting. I enjoy supporting my colleagues to progress in their own roles as well.
“My next career progression would be to a home manager role when I feel ready. I am supported in this by the team, they know where I feel I am headed.”
