Residents at Foxgrove and Maynell House in Felixstowe got into the World Cup spirit as staff held a football tournament in the shared gardens ahead of England’s semi-final.
The neighbouring Healthcare Homes care homes, which provide residential, respite and palliative care, made the most of the sunshine by taking the competition outdoors.

Staff divided into teams and played a series of friendly matches, while residents watched from the sidelines. They followed the scores, supported their chosen teams and enjoyed seeing members of the care team take part.
The activities team organised the tournament as part of the homes’ programme of events. Throughout the year, Foxgrove and Maynell House arrange activities linked to occasions that residents enjoy, including national celebrations, seasonal events and sporting occasions.
Rebecca Bewley, Home Manager at Foxgrove and Maynell House, said: “Many of our residents have been following the World Cup, so it seemed like the perfect excuse to have a football tournament of our own. The staff certainly gave it their best effort, and our residents enjoyed watching every minute of it.”

Foxgrove and Maynell House sit next to each other in Old Felixstowe and regularly work together on activities and events. Foxgrove is a small and welcoming care home with original period features, while Maynell House is located within a restored Victorian building surrounded by landscaped gardens.
Both homes provide a friendly environment where residents can take part in activities, spend time outdoors and continue enjoying hobbies and interests that are important to them.
The tournament gave residents and staff a chance to enjoy the excitement surrounding the World Cup before everyone settles down to watch England’s semi-final.
