Bristol Rovers fan returns to the stands

David enjoying Bristol Rovers matchday trip

A resident at Oaktree Care Home in Yate recently experienced a special and long-awaited return to live football, attending a Bristol Rovers match at the Memorial Ground for the first time in several years.

David, a lifelong Bristol Rovers supporter, was once a regular at matches but had been unable to attend in recent years due to changing circumstances. Staff at Oaktree Care Home were delighted to help him return to something he has loved for most of his life.

To make the day even more special, the team helped David prepare for the occasion, with a Bristol Rovers shirt arranged for him to wear and a friend kindly lending him a hat to complete his matchday look.

Accompanied by Home Manager Rowena Gillespie, David took his seat among fellow supporters and quickly settled into the familiar matchday atmosphere. He chatted with fans nearby, joined in with the singing, and clearly enjoyed being back in the crowd.

The experience was made even better by a fantastic result for the home side, with Bristol Rovers securing an impressive 4–0 win.

Speaking after the match, David said:
“I felt happy to be there, the atmosphere was great, and of course the score, ending 4–0.”

Home Manager Rowena Gillespie said it was a pleasure to support David in returning to something so meaningful to him.

“David has always spoken fondly of Bristol Rovers and his memories of going to games when he was younger. Being able to take him to the match and see how much he enjoyed it was really special,” she said.

The trip reflects Oaktree Care Home’s ongoing commitment to supporting residents to continue enjoying their hobbies, interests, and meaningful experiences.

Oaktree Care Home in Yate provides residential, nursing, and dementia care in a warm and supportive environment, helping residents to live as independently and actively as possible.
