Residents of Albany Care Home recently enjoyed a special visit from local football legend and former Oxford United player Peter Rhoades-Brown.

Peter’s arrival brought an atmosphere of joy and nostalgia as he shared stories from his remarkable football career. From starting at Queens Park Rangers to playing for Chelsea and eventually making his mark at Oxford United, Peter recounted memorable moments that captivated the residents, especially the long-time football enthusiasts. His tales of seasons filled with iconic goals and the club’s significant milestones lit up the room with smiles and conversation.
During Peter’s visit, he took the time to speak with residents, even those who couldn’t make it to the main gathering. One resident, George, a lifelong Oxford United member and shareholder, found the day particularly touching. With a friendship spanning over 40 years, George fondly recalled how Peter found and returned his lost wedding ring at a game. This anecdote and Peter’s thoughtful phone calls to check on George over the years show the strong community spirit at Albany Care Home.
The visit was an overwhelming success, leaving staff and residents thankful for the chance to share stories, laughter, and memories with a true local icon. With Oxford United now playing in the Championship for the first time in 25 years, Peter’s visit was also a timely nod to the pride shared across the community.
