War veteran Ken’s 103rd birthday celebrations has hit the headlines.
Ken is a resident at Uvedale Hall in Needham Market and staff there arranged a birthday celebration featuring a visit from Elvis impersonator Andy Ottley, his daughter and all the staff and residents.
The veteran was an ambulance driver in WW2 and was involved in rescuing the injured at Dunkirk. Ken is very humble about the service he gave to his country and says he was one cog in a big wheel in relation to the war.
Ken’s amazing life story caught the attention of the local press, and journalists from the East Anglian Daily Times and BBC Radio Suffolk both interviewed him.
As well as being a fan of the King, Ken, who has lived at the Uvedale Hall for five years, is a keen footie follower and enjoys watching the beautiful game on TV. He supports Chelsea, who have sent him a letter and flag in recognition of his big birthday.
Uvedale Hall Administrator, Jo, said: “It was a fantastic celebration and all of us – residents and staff – all got to sing Ken happy birthday. Ken is a lovely gentleman who has had a very interesting life. He’s very modest about what he did in the war but we are all so proud of him.”
