Recently the lounge at The Old Vicarage care home, in Leigh, was filled with excitement as one of the dedicated carers, Sarah, brought her daughters and their delightful pets for a special visit. Residents had the opportunity to meet and interact with an array of unique animals, including two tree frogs, a bearded dragon, a hedgehog, a tortoise, and a chinchilla.

The visit proved to be a joyful experience, with several residents happily holding the pets while others preferred to admire them from a distance. The event sparked lively conversations as residents reminisced about their own pets from younger days, with many sharing fond memories of rabbits, cats, and dogs. A common theme emerged as they reflected on how it was usually their mothers who took on the responsibility of caring for the family pets.
Amanda, a member of the care team, expressed her delight, stating, “It was a really lovely morning. The residents absolutely loved bonding with the animals, and it was wonderful to see so many smiles.”
Resident Mary remarked, “It was a lovely morning; I enjoyed holding the tortoise and chatting with everyone.” Meanwhile Molly, another resident at the home, added, “How wonderful! It brought back such lovely memories of my pets from when I was younger.”
Overall, the visit was a resounding success, leaving residents smiling and expressing how much they enjoyed the fun and engaging morning. The Old Vicarage staff are grateful to Sarah and her daughters for sharing their love of animals, bringing happiness and warmth to the residents’ day.
