This week, the residents at St Leonards Court in Mundford had some very special visitors – a group of guinea pigs from Cuddly Cavies.
The little animals quickly became the stars of the lounge, being gently passed from lap to lap. Residents stroked their soft fur, listened to their gentle purrs, and laughed at the occasional squeak. For some, the visit sparked memories of pets they had loved in the past, while others simply enjoyed the calming, tactile experience of holding the tiny creatures.
Cuddly Cavies specialise in therapeutic visits, using their trained guinea pigs to engage residents, encourage conversation, support fine motor skills, and provide a soothing sensory experience.
St Leonards Court provides specialist dementia care in a warm, friendly setting. Life here is full of activities designed with residents’ wellbeing in mind – from music and crafts to visits from entertainers, and sometimes, as this week proved, cuddly little guinea pigs.
