New manager has big plans for Romford Grange care home

New manager Sue Aryan has big plans for Romford Grange care home and is looking forward to getting involved in the local community and celebrating Christmas with the residents and relatives.

Romford Grange provides residential, nursing and dementia care to elderly people living in the area. The home is in a quiet residential area close to the town centre and with excellent public transport links. The team at the home are friendly and welcoming and spend a lot of time with the residents to ensure they provide good quality, person-centred care every day.

Mauritian born Sue – whose full name Maheshwaree but she likes to be known as Sue – has lived in Romford for 21 years and is keen to make Romford Grange central to the local community, building up links with schools, churches and other community groups. She also plans to bring some culture to Romford from Mauritius with some traditional cooking – which is one of her favourite hobbies, along with gardening.

Sue started her working life as an air steward and when her daughter was born with spina bifida she became involved in her care, including helping with other children at school.

“I found I was good at care giving, I enjoyed it and it became a passion for me, a big part of my life,” she said.

Sue went on to work in care for the next 30 years with roles including team leader caring for people living with dementia, working with people with learning disabilities, with nursing needs and from a variety of different ethnic backgrounds.

Whichever care homes Sue has managed, she has constantly been a motivator and a mentor to a lot of staff. Her forte is building a great team. She has trained many from carers to Team Leaders; team leaders to deputy managers and some have even become home managers.  Her sister and young nephew live with her and her husband and together the sisters cook for the local Mauritian community and for the homeless in the area, as well as doing a lot of work for various charities.

“I have a great team here at Romford Grange and everyone is dedicated to providing the best quality care. Christmas is coming and I want to get out and about in the local community and get our name known, welcoming the community in when we can to spend time with our residents.”

Romford Grange is part of Healthcare Homes family of 48 care homes and 11 homecare branches. The company has recently been named in the Top 20 care home groups for the seventh year in a row by independent review website carehome.co.uk. Romford Grange has a 9.8 out of 10 score on carehome.co.uk and is rated Good by the Care Quality Commission.
