Across Healthcare Homes Group Ltd, we want to recognise that October 18th marks World Menopause Day.
This is a day to raise awareness about the menopause by creating an open environment for people to learn about the change, consider our support offerings to those affected by this life stage, and for our employees to discuss and share experiences in order to normalise the subject for discussion.
Why is this important? Well, did you know that, as reported by Peppy Healthcare Solutions, of those people who are experiencing menopause:
- 63% state that the symptoms have negatively impacted them at work
- 25% have or will consider leaving their jobs as a result of the symptoms and side effects
- 1 in 3 say they do not feel comfortable talking to their manager about their experience
But it doesn’t just affect those who will go through the change. In actual fact, every single person, whether directly or indirectly, will be impacted by the menopause in their lifetime. This may be as a result of going through the menopause themself, supporting a family member, friend or colleague during their transition, or simply hearing the terms used in the public domain.
At Healthcare Homes, we strongly believe that our employee support systems and initiatives should be driven by the voice of our employees. Therefore, we are making the following pledge:
Over the next 12 months we will be launching a range of initiatives to support all our employees. These will include creating a new working group, to welcome employees to discuss support ideas and to create and embed a new Menopause Support Policy for Healthcare Homes Group. Listen out for further information coming your way soon.
In the meantime, if you would like to speak to someone about your own experiences or would like to discuss how you can get involved with our Menopause Pledge, then please contact your Manager, Area/Regional Manager, or a member of the HR team.
