Making residents’ dreams come true is all part of the working day for the activity team at Fornham House Care Home.
This week that included calling in a favour and getting some leather-clad bikers to visit the home in the village of Fornham St Martin, near Bury St Edmunds.
Activity Co-ordinator Amanda Rose said, “We get to know all our residents well and I had spent quite a bit of time with one of our residents and his family finding out about his life story which included owning a Triumph motorbike when he was younger.”
His son said that dad, Stuart, who is now living with dementia, does not generally like noise but loves the throbbing sound of a motorbike engine revving up.
“I have a few friends with bikes so called in a favour,” added Amanda.
“We have a big car park and grounds at Fornham House so it was perfect for them to call in while out on a ride and see the residents who wanted to have a look at the bikes.
“The bikers came from across Suffolk, they were the most wonderful people they all had so much time for our residents.
“Sometimes it is the little things which get our residents chatting and reminiscing, there are good people in the world and as we take the time to really know our residents we can all help to make their days more sunny.”
Amanda added that she has a couple of other wishes to grant for resident including another gentleman who will be going out to a local Mini dealership to look at the cars and have a chat with the salesmen , his last car was a soft-top Mini.
